Views on Racism

Alex is humbled to be a part of such an important dialogue. Within his own life, growing up with a lot of privilege in an affluent suburb of Chicago, he spent most of his early life sheltered from underlying racism.

It wasn't until he spent several years living outside of Detroit and returned back home to the Chicagoland area that his eyes were truly opened to so much of the systemic racism that had been happening underneath the idealistic surface of his home town.

The eye's of the sheltered are shielded by hands of those unwilling to see; a sad, self-
destructing circle of avoidance and shame, fueled by those of privilege, forever blocking
communities from growth and welcome acceptance.
